Sutures are ancient, having been used to close wounds for thousands of years. It is time to give the modern warfighter modern wound closure – DermaClip® Skin Closure Devices.
Compared to sutures, needle-free DermaClip devices allow any provider to deliver high-quality, long-duration closures quickly and consistently. And no percutaneous wounds mean fewer infection pathways and no lidocaine.
The secret lies in the devices’ technology. They are designed to maintain wound approximation and evert the skin edges on every closure – all textbook elements of good closure – without forceps or needle drivers. All the provider does is apply the devices to the approximated edges of the wound and pull the devices closed. The devices do the rest.
As a result, providers can be taught to use DermaClip devices proficiently in minutes, and wounds can be closed in seconds, facts compellingly demonstrated in an approved cadaver study at Ft. Hood. After only 15 minutes of training, providers closed 6 cm wounds with DermaClip devices in an average of 77 seconds—600% faster than sutures (456 seconds).

MULTI-MODULAR FOR ADVANCED SURVIVABILITY

DermaClip devices integrate across all Roles, providing triage, interim or permanent closure, all with no skin damage. This vertical integration empowers units with internal resupply, fewer medical consumables, and lighter medical loads.
The devices are weight saving: a package delivering three inches of closure weighs only 0.15 oz. and is the size of an index card; a waterproof kit with 12 packages delivering 3 feet of closure weighs just 2.5 oz. This means the devices can be included in any kit, reducing weight without sacrificing capability, and are air
droppable.
With no need for lidocaine, needle-drivers or forceps, additional weight savings can be realized.

By reducing closure time, the devices enhance the capabilities of the medical provider, improve warfighter survivability, and return non-disabled warfighters to service faster, aligning with the goals of Prolonged Field Care.
